Insurance for Arizona specialty contractors — the trades most brokers don’t understand.

Demolition, septic, signs, solar, elevators and blasting each have exposures a standard contractor policy may exclude outright. An independent broker who reads the exclusions and can go to specialty carriers makes the difference.

What we check for you

  • Exclusions specific to your trade (demolition, height, pollution, blasting)
  • Pollution coverage for septic, demolition and drilling
  • Crane, lift and heavy equipment scheduling
  • Class codes and experience mod
  • Contract endorsements and umbrella limits
Who this is for

Specialty licenses.

Wrecking and demolition, fencing, sign installation, septic tanks and systems, solar installers, elevator contractors, drilling and water well, blasting, water conditioning and seal coating contractors.

Solar installers are licensed under several classifications (electrical, and solar-inclusive plumbing or A/C classes) — confirm yours on roc.az.gov. Classification names are summarized. DANESURE is not affiliated with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors.

Contract requirements you’ll see

What owners and GCs ask specialty contractors for.

On top of the standard sub requirements, specialty scopes often add:

  • Additional insured status for the GC and owner, including completed operations (often on CG 20 10 / CG 20 37 forms or their equivalents)
  • Primary & non-contributory wording, so your policy pays before theirs
  • Waiver of subrogation on GL, workers’ comp, auto and umbrella
  • Per-project aggregate so one job can’t use up the limit for every other job
  • Pollution liability for demolition, septic and drilling
  • Higher umbrella limits for demolition and crane work

Send us the insurance page of your contract

Before you sign, forward the insurance requirements (usually an exhibit or a paragraph titled “Insurance”). We’ll tell you what your current policies already meet, what needs an endorsement, and what it would cost to close the gap — before the GC’s risk manager rejects your certificate.

Coverage

Coverage built around the exclusions.

Every line priced at minimum, standard and higher limits — with your contract requirements as the floor, not an afterthought.

Liability

General liability

Written by carriers that actually accept your operation, without exclusions that swallow the work.

Pollution

Contractors pollution liability

Asbestos and lead in demolition, septic effluent, drilling fluids and fuel.

Equipment

Contractors equipment

Cranes, boom trucks, lifts, drill rigs and excavators.

Auto

Commercial auto

Boom trucks, pumper trucks, haulers and service vehicles.

Workers’ comp

Workers’ compensation

Specialty classes placed correctly; experience mod reviewed.

Professional

Professional liability

For solar and sign contractors doing their own design or engineering coordination.

Excess

Umbrella / excess

Where contracts or your own risk call for more.

Bonds

License & contract bonds

License and contract bonds: tell us what you need (ROC license bond, bid, performance or payment bond) and we’ll check whether we can place it through our network. We can’t promise every bond, but we’ll give you a straight answer.

Typical risks

Where specialty contractors get hurt.

  • A demolition claim excluded because the policy prohibits wrecking work
  • Septic or drilling contamination with no pollution coverage
  • A sign or crane load dropped onto a vehicle or pedestrian
  • Solar roof penetrations leaking years later
  • A carrier exiting your class at renewal with little notice
How it works

Honest timing, start to finish.

  1. Send us what you haveUpload your dec pages or policies (GL, workers’ comp, auto, equipment, umbrella) or email them to [email protected]. Add your EMR worksheet and a sample contract’s insurance section if you have them.
  2. Written Cost & Risk report within 24 hours of receiving your documentsWe read every line: class codes, experience mod, limits against your contract requirements, endorsements, exclusions and gaps. This is the review — not carrier quotes.
  3. A 15-minute callWe walk you through what we found, in plain English. If nothing needs fixing, we tell you that — you keep the report either way.
  4. If you want options, we shop itWe market your account to multiple carriers in our network. Carrier quotes typically take 1–2 business days once underwriters have what they need (payroll by class, loss runs, vehicle and equipment lists).
FAQ

Specialty contractor insurance questions.

My carrier just non-renewed my demolition coverage. Can you help?
Send us your current policy, loss runs and a description of your work. We’ll take it to carriers in our network that write your class. Quotes for harder classes can take longer than the typical 1–2 business days — we’ll keep you posted.
Does my GL cover asbestos or lead?
Almost never. Those exposures sit in pollution coverage, and some require specialized policies. We check what’s available for your scope.
I install solar. Which policy covers roof leaks from my penetrations?
Typically GL with completed operations — if the policy doesn’t exclude roofing work or solar. We read the wording.
