New ROC license? Get covered so you can start work.

Most GCs, property managers and homeowners won’t let you on site without a certificate of insurance. Tell us what you do, where you work and who you’re working for — we’ll recommend what you need, shop it with carriers in our network, and get you a certificate once a policy is bound.

What most new contractors need first

  • General liability — usually the first thing a GC or customer asks for
  • Workers’ comp — if you have employees, Arizona generally requires it
  • Commercial auto — for trucks titled to the business or used for work
  • Tools & equipment — your livelihood on the back of the truck
  • Certificates — with the endorsements your first contract asks for

Who this is for

Every ROC license type, freshly issued.

You just passed your exams, posted your license bond and got your license number — or you’re moving from working for someone else to running your own company. No current policy? No problem. That’s exactly what this path is for.

Your ROC license bond is not liability insurance — it doesn’t defend your business if you’re sued for property damage or an injury. DANESURE is not affiliated with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors.

Your first contract

What your first GC or customer will ask for.

Expect a certificate request before your first day on site. Common asks:

  • Additional insured status for the GC and owner, including completed operations (often on CG 20 10 / CG 20 37 forms or their equivalents)
  • Primary & non-contributory wording, so your policy pays before theirs
  • Waiver of subrogation on GL, workers’ comp, auto and umbrella
  • Per-project aggregate so one job can’t use up the limit for every other job
  • Minimum limits — commonly $1M per occurrence / $2M aggregate, plus an umbrella

Have a contract waiting on you?

Send us the insurance requirements with your request. We’ll build your first program around them, so your certificate passes the first time.

Coverage

A starter program that can grow with you.

We’ll present options at minimum, standard and higher limits — and if a contract sets a minimum, that’s the floor.

Liability

General liability

Property damage and injury claims from your work, plus the endorsements GCs require.

Workers’ comp

Workers’ compensation

Required in Arizona for most employers. Owners may have options to include or exclude themselves — we’ll explain them.

Auto

Commercial auto

For business-owned vehicles, or hired & non-owned auto if you use personal vehicles for work.

Equipment

Tools & equipment

Inland marine for tools and equipment in your truck or on site.

Excess

Umbrella

When a contract requires more than your GL limit.

Bonds

License & contract bonds

License and contract bonds: tell us what you need (ROC license bond, bid, performance or payment bond) and we’ll check whether we can place it through our network. We can’t promise every bond, but we’ll give you a straight answer.

Typical risks

Mistakes new contractors make.

  • Assuming the ROC license bond protects the business from lawsuits
  • Buying the cheapest GL without checking what the first GC requires
  • Paying helpers as 1099 labor without workers’ comp and getting an audit bill later
  • Using a personal auto policy for a work truck
  • Leaving tools uninsured on a truck parked overnight
How it works

Honest timing, start to finish.

  1. Send us what you haveUpload your dec pages or policies (GL, workers’ comp, auto, equipment, umbrella) or email them to [email protected]. Add your EMR worksheet and a sample contract’s insurance section if you have them.
  2. Written Cost & Risk report within 24 hours of receiving your documentsWe read every line: class codes, experience mod, limits against your contract requirements, endorsements, exclusions and gaps. This is the review — not carrier quotes.
  3. A 15-minute callWe walk you through what we found, in plain English. If nothing needs fixing, we tell you that — you keep the report either way.
  4. If you want options, we shop itWe market your account to multiple carriers in our network. Carrier quotes typically take 1–2 business days once underwriters have what they need (payroll by class, loss runs, vehicle and equipment lists).
FAQ

New contractor insurance questions.

How fast can I get covered?
It depends on your trade and the carriers. Once we have what underwriters need (your business details, the work you do, payroll estimates and any prior experience), carrier quotes typically take 1–2 business days. A certificate can be issued once a policy is bound.
I have no prior insurance or loss history. Can I still get coverage?
Yes. Many carriers write new ventures, especially when the owner has trade experience. Tell us about your background — it helps.
Do I need workers’ comp if it’s just me?
If you have no employees, rules and options differ — and some GCs require proof of coverage anyway. We’ll walk you through it. If you hire even one employee, Arizona generally requires coverage.
Is my ROC license bond the same as insurance?
No. The license bond protects consumers under Arizona law; it doesn’t defend or pay claims for your business. General liability does that.
Can you help with my license bond?
We can take the inquiry and check whether it can be placed through our network, with no promises. Just mention it when you contact us.
