Insurance for Arizona finish-trade contractors — small crews, big certificate requirements.

Finish trades often work under the same contract requirements as the biggest subs on the job, with thinner margins. We make sure your GL and certificates pass the GC’s review, your crews are classed correctly, and you aren’t paying for exposure you don’t have.

What we check for you

  • Certificates that meet GC requirements the first time
  • Class codes for painters, finishers, installers and office
  • Uninsured crews or 1099 labor at audit
  • Tools, materials and small equipment
  • Residential vs. commercial restrictions on your GL

Contract requirements you’ll see

What GCs ask finish subs for.

Even a two-week finish scope usually comes with the full insurance exhibit:

  • Additional insured status for the GC and owner, including completed operations (often on CG 20 10 / CG 20 37 forms or their equivalents)
  • Primary & non-contributory wording, so your policy pays before theirs
  • Waiver of subrogation on GL, workers’ comp, auto and umbrella
  • Per-project aggregate so one job can’t use up the limit for every other job
  • Minimum limits — commonly $1M per occurrence / $2M aggregate, plus an umbrella
  • Notice of cancellation to the certificate holder

Send us the insurance page of your contract

Before you sign, forward the insurance requirements (usually an exhibit or a paragraph titled “Insurance”). We’ll tell you what your current policies already meet, what needs an endorsement, and what it would cost to close the gap — before the GC’s risk manager rejects your certificate.

Coverage

Right-sized coverage for finish crews.

Every line priced at minimum, standard and higher limits — with your contract requirements as the floor, not an afterthought.

Liability

General liability

With the right work description, completed operations, and the endorsements your GCs ask for.

Workers’ comp

Workers’ compensation

Painters, finishers and installers in the correct classes; 1099 labor handled before audit, not after.

Auto

Commercial auto

Work vans and pickups, plus hired & non-owned auto.

Equipment

Tools & equipment

Sprayers, lifts, saws and materials on the truck or on site.

Excess

Umbrella / excess

When a GC requires more than $1M/$2M.

Bonds

License & contract bonds

License and contract bonds: tell us what you need (ROC license bond, bid, performance or payment bond) and we’ll check whether we can place it through our network. We can’t promise every bond, but we’ll give you a straight answer.

Typical risks

Where finish contractors get hurt.

  • A rejected certificate that delays your start date
  • 1099 helpers treated as your employees at audit
  • Overspray, water from a tile or glazing failure, or a fire from finishing materials
  • Falls from ladders and lifts
  • A GL policy restricted to residential work when you take a commercial job
How it works

Honest timing, start to finish.

  1. Send us what you haveUpload your dec pages or policies (GL, workers’ comp, auto, equipment, umbrella) or email them to [email protected]. Add your EMR worksheet and a sample contract’s insurance section if you have them.
  2. Written Cost & Risk report within 24 hours of receiving your documentsWe read every line: class codes, experience mod, limits against your contract requirements, endorsements, exclusions and gaps. This is the review — not carrier quotes.
  3. A 15-minute callWe walk you through what we found, in plain English. If nothing needs fixing, we tell you that — you keep the report either way.
  4. If you want options, we shop itWe market your account to multiple carriers in our network. Carrier quotes typically take 1–2 business days once underwriters have what they need (payroll by class, loss runs, vehicle and equipment lists).
FAQ

Finish-trade insurance questions.

I use 1099 helpers. Do they need workers’ comp?
If they can’t show their own valid workers’ comp coverage, your carrier may count what you paid them as your payroll at audit. Arizona’s rules on who counts as an employee are specific — talk to us before audit time.
My GC rejected my certificate. What now?
Send us the GC’s requirements and the rejected certificate. Usually it’s a missing endorsement (additional insured, primary & non-contributory, waiver of subrogation) that can be added.
Is the coverage review really free?
Yes. We’re paid a commission by the insurance company only if you buy a policy through us, and we’ll explain how that works.
